Build
Good gardens are built from the ground up, and it shows.
The parts of a garden you stand on and walk over set the tone for everything else. We build them properly, in materials that age well in London weather.
What’s included
Hard Landscaping, in detail.
Every project is different, but here’s what this work typically involves.
Natural stone & porcelain paving
York stone, limestone, granite setts and large-format porcelain, laid on proper foundations with the falls and jointing done right.
Paths & steps
Routes that make sense underfoot, level changes handled with generous, comfortable steps rather than mean ones.
Walls & retaining
Brick and stone walls, raised beds and retaining structures engineered to hold ground and last decades.
Fencing
Timber and composite fencing, boundary work and hardwood gates that mark a garden’s edge cleanly and stand up to the weather.
Timber & decking
Hardwood decks, screens and gates built to sit flat and true, with fixings that will not stain or fail.
Artificial lawns
Artificial lawns installed on properly prepared, drained bases, well suited to shaded urban gardens, roof terraces and courtyards where real grass will not thrive.
How it works
From first conversation to finished garden.
- 01
Survey & setting out
We confirm levels, drainage and access, then set the whole garden out on the ground before a stone is laid.
- 02
Groundwork
Excavation, foundations and drainage, the base that decides whether a patio still sits flat in ten years.
- 03
Building
Paving, walls, steps and timber built by our own team, with the joints and edges finished by hand.
- 04
Finishing
Pointing, sealing where appropriate, and a thorough clean-down so you see the garden at its best on day one.

Pricing guide
From £8,000
Hard landscaping starts around £8,000 for smaller works (paving, walls, steps) and scales significantly for full builds, decks, and larger paved areas. Every project is quoted after a site visit.
What affects the price
- Type and quality of materials (natural stone vs concrete, hardwood vs softwood)
- Site access and how materials can be brought in
- Ground conditions and any structural work needed
- Complexity of the build (curves, changes in level, retaining walls)
- Whether existing surfaces need to be removed first
Questions
Hard Landscaping: the details people ask about.
Honestly, groundwork weeks are the messy ones. We sheet up, protect the house and neighbours, keep access clear and clean down every day. We will give you a realistic week-by-week picture before we start.
