A Fresh Lawn in Muswell Hill

The brief

A long, narrow Muswell Hill back garden with tired, patchy grass that had thinned out to almost nothing. The rest of the garden already worked: a cedar garden studio at the far end, established boundary planting on both sides, the layout of the space long-settled. What the clients wanted was a proper lawn again: something green and healthy running the full length of the garden, without touching anything else.

Our approach

This was a focused turfing job, not a rebuild. The scope stayed tight: strip out the old grass, prepare the ground properly, lay fresh turf. Everything else stayed as it was.

The build

We cleared the existing surface, levelled and prepared the soil, and laid fresh turf across the whole length of the garden. Careful ground preparation matters more than most people realise with turf: the difference between a lawn that establishes cleanly and one that patches out in the first summer is almost always what happens under it.

The result

A fresh green lawn running the full length of the garden, ready to be used immediately and set up to establish well for the seasons ahead. The surrounding garden stayed exactly as it was, so what the clients got was the one thing they had asked for, done properly.
