A Garden Reworked in Bounds Green

The brief

The clients had a rear garden they had lived around rather than in: patchy grass, tired old fencing on three sides, and no proper place to sit or eat. They wanted to reclaim it as an outdoor room for the family, with less lawn to look after and more useable space.

Our approach

We started by taking the garden back to the boundaries: clearing the old planting, removing the failing fences and levelling the site. New pale grey slatted fencing brightens the whole space and gives the built work something calm to sit against. A built-in hardwood corner bench takes up the sunny corner, a section of hardwood decking sits by the house, and low-maintenance artificial lawn opens up the middle so the garden reads as one room rather than a fight of textures.

The build

The build ran in a clear sequence: strip out, level, new fencing all round, then the bench and decking substructure, then the lawn, planters and finishing details. The pale fencing was chosen and painted early so everything after it could be judged against the final backdrop.

The result

A garden that finally works for how the family actually live in it. The corner bench is the natural place to sit, the lawn stays green with almost no upkeep, and the whole space feels bigger than it did before we started. The fencing does a lot of that work.
